Hall’s Creek Preservation Fund (HCPF) was formed in 2009 by a small group of concerned Seaside Park residents who recognized changes to the ecology of Halls Creek and the salt marsh. It is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization committed to preserving the environmentally sensitive areas around Halls Creek. HCPF successfully raised funds in 2009 from Seaside Park, Green Dunes, Squaw Island and the Hyannisport Club to do a comprehensive engineering study of the area. All donations to the Halls Creek Preservation Fund are tax deductible.
Why was the Halls Creek Preservation Fund formed?
Over the last several years, and accelerating in the past few, we have seen a buildup of sand near the mouth of Halls Creek, an explosion of phragmites at the shoreline of the marsh, a ban on shellfishing and the presence of algae and other floating matter at the east side of the marsh. All of this pointed to a serious question of the on-going sustain- ability of the ecosystem of Hall’s Creek and the salt marsh.
Why is the estuary important?
The Halls Creek estuary is one of the most environmentally sensitive areas on Cape Cod. It is the habitat of innumerable species of mammals, birds, shellfish and crustaceans many of which are on the endangered species list.
